A letter to my brother Mike

“Someone Who Inspired Me”
Sherome Milon

When thinking of someone who inspired me I could only think of one person. This person who helped me out a lot, this person kept me grounded. This person was my brother Mike. Actually he is really not my blood brother, but blood couldn’t keep us apart. He’s a father figure, role model, and spiritual advisor. Why him? Well my brother Mike has been apart of my life for the longest. He’s always pushing me to do right and make smart decisions, as long as I know he has never steered me in the wrong direction. I can honestly say he made me into the person I am today. One thing about my brother I appreciate the most is he never let me quit. It could be on little things as in playing video games, singing, or practicing sports he didn’t let me stop until I got it right. I remember when I first started to play football in the 5th grade, I was horrible and I didn’t feel like I can contribute, I wanted to quit. I called my brother crying and he told me not to quit I was making a bad choice. Mike told me he was going to make me better, stronger and faster. I decided not to quit and take his advice. I use to stay with him and we would work out and as the time progressed I got better. Then after that I would always work with him. By the time I got to high school I excelled. I eventually become the player I am today because of him. I made varsity my sophomore year and was named special teams player of the year. The only sophomore on the team to receive a individual award. This was an exciting point in my life, I felt good finally. Junior year I was starting varsity, received all-conference 1st team honors as a defensive back. I credit this to my brother, when I play football I always think of things he taught me, if it wasn’t for him like I said I wouldn’t be nothing. Even though my junior year was great, I had another obstacle I had to deal with. I had a bad coach that year; he didn’t put me on any recruiting list. Due to that I wasn’t known by any coaches, I felt unwanted. So my dreams of college football were crashing down right before my eyes. I felt robbed, people I knew were getting looks from colleges I knew I was way better than. I was lost and confused. Once again I went to my brother. He told me to put myself out on the map; I had to send film to a majority of colleges so I can be seen. He told me to keep praying and play best my senior year and I will play college football after I graduated high school. I took his advice once again. It worked; The College of St. Scholastica was the first school who contacted me. Some weird number called in it was Coach Carlson. I have special ties to Carlson because he was the first coach that told me that I can play for his college. I was relieved my dream wasn’t going to crash anymore. I thank my brother for helping me threw all my hard times, he is truly a life saver. I am very blessed to have him. He also took me to a lot of schools to visit, he just been everything a big brother should be. He’s my number one fan till this day. He still helps me with life lessons; he gets on me and pushes me on the field. He’s just my inspiration to do well, I do a lot of this stuff for him, I’m living his dream threw me too.  That’s why we are so close now I love my brother to death, he is a life saver, I wouldn’t trade him for nothing.
